Family Visitation

As a general note, family visits are encouraged as part of each youth’s treatment program. Visitation is restricted to three members of the immediate family only. Immediate family is defined as parents, legal guardians, grandparents, or siblings. Siblings or visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and are considered part of the three immediate family members.

Family members in need of reasonable accommodations due to a disability must submit a written request to the Superintendent of the facility at least 48 hours prior to the visitation date.

Each secure facility follows established guidelines and requirements for visitation and processing visitors. They include:

  • Visitors will identify themselves and the youth they are requesting to visit. All visitors and children over the age of 12 will be required to be on the “Authorized Visitation Record”, show picture I.D., pass through a metal detector, and are subject to search. All personal and food items brought into the facility are also subject to search.

  • Proper identification is defined as: Current Driver’s License, Identification Card, Military I.D., School I.D., or any current ID with a photograph.

  • Any visitor on Probation or Parole must have written permission from the Superintendent to visit.

  • Once the visitor is cleared and items are checked, the youth will be called to the visitation room.

  • Persons not authorized to visit must leave the grounds (including the parking lot). Anyone loitering may result in being asked to leave the parking lot and termination of the visit. There is NO swapping of visitors in mid-visitation and once a visitor leaves the facility, they may not re-enter.

  • Permitted items include a required picture I.D., car keys, $5.00 in coins, see through change purse, prescription medication in original container and ONLY for the quantity required during visitation period. Retail food and factory sealed items may be brought into visitation for youth. NO GLASS CONTAINERS OR METAL UTENSILS ARE ALLOWED. Plastic or paper containers and utensils only (NO KNIVES). All food items must be consumed during the visitation, or taken out with the visitor. No food or drinks will be allowed to be taken to the housing unit by youth or staff.

  • Non-Permitted Items include: Youth personal property, letters, cards, or pictures will not be accepted or allowed to be brought in during visitation hours. ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS, TOBACCO PRODUCTS, ALCOHOL BEVERAGES OR ILLEGAL DRUGS ARE ALLOWED ON FACILITY GROUNDS (INCLUDING THE PARKING LOT).

  • Inappropriate behavior or language will not be tolerated and the visitation will be subject to cancellation.

    Dear Parent/Guardian:

The time spent during visitation is an important and valuable part of your child’s treatment. It is understandable that transportation and financial commitments may hinder your ability to visit on a regular basis. Through the hard work of an Arizona Department of Juvenile Correction's employee and the City of Phoenix, we are delighted to announce the new 35th Avenue bus route. The bus stop is located on 29th Avenue and is a short distance from the entrance to both Adobe Mountain and Black Canyon Schools.

Click here to view the 35th Avenue bus route schedule. We encourage you to review the new bus route schedule and utilize it if possible. We hope that by taking the bus, you will be able to make frequent visits and that it may relieve some of the financial burden of your transportation costs.

For any questions or concerns regarding the route or visitation please contact the facilities Family Liaison.
