Frequently Asked Questions for Parents / Guardians

What safety measures are in place now to protect my child from the Coronavirus?

Adobe Mountain School has restricted entry to the facility so that only essential  personnel have contact with youth. All staff are following safe, specific hygiene practices consistent with Department of Health Services recommendations. Youth are also practicing the hygiene methods recommended by the Department of Health Services. All locations within Adobe Mountain School are utilizing heightened cleaning strategies using approved products. All staff and youth have been provided face masks which they are required to wear. Incoming youth are being tested upon arrival and quarantined in cohorts before integrating with other youth at Adobe Mountain School.

What plans are in place if my child or another child gets sick at Adobe Mountain School?

You will be notified if your child tests positive for COVID-19. If your child is displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or test positive for COVID-19, he or she will be housed separately with other positive or symptomatic youth where he or she will be monitored and cared for by medical staff. He or she will still be able to communicate with his or her teacher, caseworker, and psychology associate during this time and will continue to have the option to participate in virtual visitation.

When will Visitation resume?

By limiting access to Adobe Mountain School, we intend to decrease the risk of community spread of the Coronavirus, as recommended by the Department of Health Services. Visitation will be re-evaluated on a monthly basis to determine whether visits can safely resume. Please understand that any decision will be guided by the level of containment of the spread of the virus in the community. In the meantime, we have increased opportunities for youth phone calls to parents or guardians and implemented a video visitation option. Please refer to the COVID-19 Visitation Information for Guardians, updated July 14, 2020.

Is my child still going to school?

Classes are still continuing for youth, and being run by our certified teachers. Your child can continue to make progress toward their educational goals, but for their safety, we are following recommended practices such as seating youth further apart from each other. In order to accomplish this, we have implemented a distance learning procedure. Half of your child’s unit are participating in class in the education buildings and half are participating in class via video call from the housing unit. Each day, the groups switch. Additionally, all areas in the education buildings and the housing units are being disinfected and sanitized frequently throughout the day, and all staff are wearing face masks.

Are food and supplies getting into Adobe Mountain?

We continue to receive deliveries of food, cleaning supplies, and other essentials. Your child is being fed as before with three nutritious and tasty meals per day, and receiving other items such as clothing and canteen..

Will my child still have their Multi-Disciplinary Team Staffing, and can I attend?

Multi-Disciplinary Team Staffings are still occurring in the same time frames as before. Although you are currently unable to enter Adobe Mountain School at this time, we continue to encourage your participation by phone. Your child’s Caseworker will be contacting you to determine your phone availability so that you can continue to be involved.

Is my child still able to make progress towards release?

In addition to education, youth remain engaged in treatment groups and individual sessions with their Psychology Associate and Caseworker. As a result, youth can continue to progress in their Phases when they meet the criteria for advancement. Your child’s Parole Officer remains involved and will continue to contact you by phone and participate in the Multi-Disciplinary Team Staffings.

Are Release Boards still being held?

Release Boards are being held for youth who meet the requirements. Parents or guardians who wish to be involved can do so by phone rather than in person, and your child will be released to you in the Adobe Mountain parking lot.

Is there someone I can contact at Adobe Mountain if I have questions or concerns?

For any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s Caseworker or Housing Unit Manager. If they are unable to answer you satisfactorily, they will notify an Administrator who will reach out to you promptly.
