The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) operations are funded by the State General Fund, earnings from the State's Permanent Land Fund, Education (K-12 Basic State Aid), the Criminal Justice Enhancement Fund, county contributions to the Local Cost Sharing Fund, and several other federal grants and non-appropriated funds.
An annual budget request is submitted to the Governor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting (OSPB). After the budget is enacted, the Budget Office is in charge of the allocation and monitoring/analysis of expenditures, compliance with legislative and executive intent, and ensuring the Department’s adherence to the budgeted amount. This involves collaboration with ADJC Human Resources on position control and with the ADJC Business and Finance Bureau, tracking expenditures and developing processes to improve financial operations. It also involves forecasting revenues and submitting financial reports to OSPB.
The Budget Office advises the Director and other members of the executive staff on all budget matters affecting the department, while serving as the department’s liaison with the OSPB, Joint Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC), Arizona Department of Administration Capital Improvement, Business Re-Engineering Arizona (BREAZ), and other budget-related entities or projects.
