EDUCATION POLICY & PROCEDURE
(Updates Available)

Education Services

Arizona Revised Statute (ARS) § 41-2831 requires the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) to establish a state education system for committed youth. Under this authority, ADJC operates Adobe Mountain School, a secure care public education agency or school district. Adobe Mountain School is a state education system for committed youth and is subject to federal laws and state laws governing the operation of a secure care public education agency.

All new students complete a half a credit Reception, Assessment, and Classification (RAC) education course prior to enrolling in traditional classes. Course objectives include career exploration, OSHA health and safety guidelines, Education and Career Action Plans (ECAP), and orientation to education at Adobe Mountain School. During the 23-day RAC period, students also complete an academic assessment and a review of educational records for proper academic placement.

High School Diploma
GED Programs

All youth committed to secure care, who do not have a high school diploma, are enrolled in the high school program. Youth are assigned classes based upon their readiness for that grade-level work and their credit needs. Classes include academic education, career technical education, and credit recovery.
