Community Placement
Youth may be granted conditional liberty (parole) and placed under the care of their legal guardian or placed in out-of-home placement. A Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) makes out-of-home placement recommendations if the youth does not have a viable home placement or if the youth requires additional treatment services not available as out-patient services in their community. The MDT may also recommend out-patient services to support the youth's ongoing rehabilitation needs. Community Corrections approves all out-of-home placement and out-patient services.
The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) only places youth in residential placement centers and group homes under contract with the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) or legally authorized as a provider under AHCCCS. The contracts for these providers contain a scope of work that identifies the contractor’s service and general operating requirements and specifies reporting requirements, including requirements for timely verbal and written notifications for significant or serious incidents affecting the youth. Contract compliance is monitored in several ways, including initial and monthly on-site visits and environmental assessments; ongoing review of reports and incident reports; and periodic treatment and programming fidelity assessments. All concerns are elevated and thoroughly investigated by ADJC.
