Education Department
Arizona Revised Statute (ARS) § 41-2831 requires the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) to establish a state education system for committed youth. Under this authority, ADJC operates Adobe Mountain School (AMS), a secure care public education agency / school district.
All new students complete a two week intake and reception process. The intake team of Adobe Mountain School reviews education records to determine youth placement in education. The youth are enrolled in a 094 course that includes: assessments for reading and math levels; home language surveying; child find screening; OSHA health and safety guidelines; education and career actions plans, and orientation to education at Adobe Mountain School.
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, COLLEGE PREPARATION, AND CAREER ASSESSMENT
All youth committed to secure care who do not have a high school diploma are enrolled in the high school program. Youth are assigned classes based upon their readiness for that grade-level work and their credit needs. Classes include academic education, career technical education, and credit recovery.
